Geranium Lake Properties: Summer Vacation Schedule
For the rest of July and the larger part of August, I will be making short trips to visit family. I will be able to give the internet my attention only intermittently. For the duration of this "summer vacation", I will be posting panels of Geranium Lake Properties on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They will not be new panels. I will be posting some of my favorites from the early days of GLP. I am doing this partly to reconnect with the spirit of Wm. Yost, the fictional creator of GLP. The satisfying but radical tangent that became The Blues consumed far more time than I at first intended, and although I am delighted with the result of that experiment, I want to take GLP back into its original trajectory.

Geranium Lake Properties, elusive fields
The Blues, Finale, Canto XXII "Life Calls to Life"
Oriol begs Undfenquathodem, the oldest living being, to try one more time to summon the citizens of the Last Empire to join the living world. No one hears the call.
These images were created from a photograph (© Laura J. Wellner, used by permission) found on this tumblr, which hosts many stunning images made by a talented artist with original vision, and an amazing eye for detail.

Geranium Lake Properties, gone to voltage
The Blues, Canto XXI, "Devastation"
Life everywhere flees from Oriol's expression of guilt and despair, terrible emotions
that belong only to Man.

The Blues, Canto XIX, "The Insanity of Trees"
The Blues, Canto XX, "Wolves Betrayed"
I took a little vacation from the internet, but usually GLP is an online cartoon published every Thursday and Sunday, and occasionally Tuesday. For the next 2 months my schedule might become erratic as I devote some extra time to family matters.

The Blues, Interlude, "The Aesthetic Dream"
Oriol dreams of a world where no living thing exists, where man lives only in his art and technology. This piece is sometimes performed between the Garden and the Testimonies.

Geranium Lake Properties, the first and last trillion
The Blues, Canto XVI, "The Testimony of the Cyanobacteria"
Also called "The Song of Departures" or "The List of Extinction". Sometimes it is sung at the end of the Testimonies.
A note about art and the modern experience: Since my computer expired in April I have been using an old laptop, and all my images have been created with MS Paint. The Blues, An Asemic Opera has been made entirely on MS Paint. In fact, this project would never have come into being if my computer had not broken down.

Geranium Lake Properties, a walk on the beach
The Blues, Canto XV, "The Testimony of the Earth and Sea"
Oriol asks for a way mankind can escape their fate foretold in the Oracle of the Buried.
The heart of the planet
is made of iron
and knows nothing of life.
It speaks through fire
and pools of magma.
Sometimes it laughs
at its own unknowable jokes,
erupting in volcanoes
and earthquakes.
The sea is full of life,
it speaks through the hearts
and lungs of whales.
It sings love songs to men
and is spurned with spears
and poison.

Geranium Lake Properties, heart to heartwood
The Blues, Canto XI, "The Conversation"
Oriol speaks with Undfenquathodem, the oldest living being, in the Garden at the End of the World.
The living world
has been waiting
for man to learn
again
the natural language.
Humans have been
too busy,
too clever,
inventing countless
artifical languages.
Here
is the first man,
the last man,
who remembers
how to talk to life.

The Blues, Canto X, "The Garden at the End of the World"
GLP is an online cartoon published every Thursday and Sunday. And occasionally Tuesday. Currently we are hijacked by the asemic opera called The Blues. Please imagine incomprehensible (but soaring) arias, utterly fantastical costumes worn by fat people, and weird music not at all similar to Phillip Glass.
